A Path to Wholeness: Exploring Your Inner Child

The path to true happiness comes only from genuine self knowledge and self belief. The transformative processes of inner child investigation can be a good place to begin. Being able to make conscious choices based on knowing who you truly are, regardless of any judgements is real empowerment.

Inner Child Exploration is an excursion into our history. It takes time, patience and a determination to feel whatever comes up, no matter what. The rewards of this type of inner enquiry are a deeper connection with the self, a sense of peace and wellbeing and true empowerment.

Connecting with our Inner Child means we are able to meet ourselves when we were still open to wonder, magic and possibility. When we were not afraid to express ourselves or take risks.

Growing up we were taught the rules of society. We learnt that we needed to be careful, to conform and to suppress our emotions. A drift away from the divine being we truly are leads to feelings of unworthiness and shame. There may be a need to hide or pretend to be someone we are not.

There are many ways to connect with the Inner Child,

  • Prayer: Prayer is a way of connecting with the divine and asking for guidance and healing. When we pray for our inner child, we are asking for help in healing the wounds of the past and connecting with our true self.
  • Meditation: Meditation is a way of quieting the mind and connecting with the present moment. When we meditate, we can create a space for our inner child to come forward and be heard.
  • Nature: Spending time in nature can help us to connect with our inner child, as it is a place of peace, beauty, and magic.
  • Creative expression: Creative expression, such as art, music, or writing, can help us to tap into our inner child’s creativity and imagination.
  • Self-care: Taking care of our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs is essential for healing the inner child. This includes eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep, and engaging in activities that we enjoy.
  • Working with a therapist, hypnotherapist or coach: Being guided by someone who is experienced in inner child work can provide extra support and guidance on your self discovery journey. Hypnosis in particular allows for a deeper more focussed approach, by bypassing the conscious mind for the duration of the session.

To deliberately decide on a path to know yourself is not easy. If it were, everyone would be doing it! Clearly this is not the case. The reasons for resisting are many and varied and I have tried most of them! Personal Growth is uphill, rocky and fraught with imagined danger. Courage will fail you many times but once you commit the way opens and the way to a full and joyful life opens.

Start slowly, be kind to yourself and let that inner child loose; let it play.
